Beet Turmeric Smoothie a.k.a. The Sunshine Smoothie

This smoothie is an antioxidant powerhouse with plenty of fiber. I call it a sunshine smoothie because it lights me up with energy. It’s rich in anti-inflammatory plants. It’s sweet from the beets, bananas, and orange, and spicy from the ginger and turmeric. If you don’t like beets, this may not the beverage for you. Try it once though because, if you’re like me and not really into the root vegetable, you may love the beet in this smoothie. Beets are usually too sweet for my tastes in salads, but raw, blended in a smoothie, it has an earthiness I really dig. And, the turmeric is orange gold. Fresh turmeric root, if you can get it, is worth the money. I really do feel it energizes me. And, I love the color. Turmeric has been used in Chinese and Indian medicine for centuries to treat inflammatory issues. Turmeric, or rather curcumin (the active ingredient in turmeric), helps alleviate and treat inflammatory bowel disease, arthritis, joint pain, cystic fibrosis, and cancer. Turmeric, like ginger, helps in digestion and it’s an immune-booster. It’s also renown as a liver cleanser. I use about an inch of it, chopped, not grated, because I have a powerful blender. I use twice that size, a proper chunk, of ginger, also not grated but chopped, in the smoothie.

I add a scoop of my favorite protein powder because it makes the smoothie that much more powerful, and my protein powder also has real gastrointestinal support – if your gut ain’t happy, you ain’t happy. I make sure to take my ageless supplements with this smoothie, and then I’m good to go, powered through my day till mid-afternoon.

  8. Filtered water
  9. Ice
Instructions
  1. Thoroughly wash all ingredients.
  2. In a blender add the chopped beet, ginger, turmeric, orange, lemon, and banana, add about 1 cup of water, enough to barely cover. Blend until smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the beet stems and leaves. Blend until smooth, about a minute.
  4. If using, add a scoop of protein powder and a cup of ice. Blend until smooth, about 30 seconds. Serve immediately.
Notes
  1. Make sure to use all organic produce and filtered water for this smoothie. You won't reap all the amazing benefits unless you're using fresh and organic fruits and vegetables. And, be sure to use the tops of the beets - the stems and leaves. Great in smoothies or soups.
