Sunshine smoothie with fresh turmeric and ginger root and beets is an antioxidant powerhouse with plenty of fiber.

Description

Detoxify with beets, the beet greens and stems, and citrus. They help the liver flush out the toxins.

Ingredients

  • 1 red or golden beet with stems and leaves (thoroughly washed, diced)
  • 1 chunk of fresh ginger (about 2 inches, chopped or coarsely grated)
  • 1 chunk of fresh turmeric (about 1 inch long, chopped or coarsely grated)
  • 1 banana (peeled, chopped)
  • 1 orange (peeled, chopped)
  • 1 lemon (peeled, chopped)
  • 1 scoop of plant-based protein powder
  • Filtered water
  • Ice

Instructions

  1. Thoroughly wash all ingredients.
  2. In a blender add the chopped beet, ginger, turmeric, orange, lemon, and banana, add about 1 cup of water, enough to barely cover. Blend until smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
  3. Add the beet stems and leaves. Blend until smooth, about a minute.
  4. If using, add a scoop of protein powder and a cup of ice. Blend until smooth, about 30 seconds. Serve immediately.

Notes

Make sure to use all organic produce and filtered water for this smoothie. You won’t reap all the amazing benefits unless you’re using fresh and organic fruits and vegetables. And, be sure to use the tops of the beets – the stems and leaves. Great in smoothies or soups.
