It’s summer 2016. Usually a season of fun, sun, and travel. But, this summer it seems that the bad news won’t stop. And like many of you I’ve been saddened by recent events. Sad that hate and fear still exist. Hate and fear of what or who are different. Sad and angry about the violence that accompanies these destructive feelings. How can we make difference? What can we do to stop the violence against minorities, women, the LGBT community, and anyone who is victimized because of their differences? What can we do to stop the violence against our beautiful planet? I don’t have a roadmap to salvation, but we can help turn to the tide. You may not be able to save the world, but you very well could make a difference in your world. Simple things like shopping at the Farmers Market, supporting local farmers, cooking dinner for someone who isn’t feeling well, giving work (and a paycheck) to someone who needs it, donating to local charities… And as important as helping others is taking care of ourselves in a meaningful way. We can make sure we’re doing things that support our own wellness. We can make the effort to feel good.
If we feel better we do better. And, we can do things today to make ourselves feel better. The healthier, stronger, and more vibrant I feel the more I want to help others, the more I want to make this planet a better place. It’s really hard to be an activist for a happier, healthier world when you feel sick, tired, and depressed. I know what makes me feel better, what helps restore hope and love. Two things: cooking and nature. A walk outside does wonders. And, cooking for myself and others changes the focus from sadness, desperation, and anger to hope. Because both these things make me feel good, they help me be a kinder, more empathetic and helpful human. Which leads me to my next point, the best thing we can do to make this world a better place is to feel better. I know in my bones if a person feels good – takes care to nourish their body, mind, and spirit – they have the energy and the focus to do what needs to be done to make this world one filled with love and harmony. So, in the days after this last spate of violence, let’s get to cooking. Cook for yourself, your loved ones, your kids, other people’s kids, the people in your tribe, the people outside your tribe, cook for people you don’t know, cook. Cook real, whole, ageless food. Feed the body so we can nourish the soul.
This is the true goal of an Ageless Diet: to make this planet a healthier, happier place. And, it all starts with the basics. What you eat, how you live, and what you think. The food you eat to do becomes the thoughts you think, the skin you live it. Sure, glowing skin, maybe some weight loss, a sharper mind, these are side effects of the Ageless Diet. But they’re not the goal. The goal is to FEEL BETTER so we DO BETTER. Let’s feed the world love.
If you’re hankering for a great and simple summer dish try this grilled salmon. I haven’t met a single person who doesn’t love this dish. Serve with grilled corn and simple salad of greens, fresh herbs, and tomatoes, and you will be a happy human.
Wishing you all peace, love, and so much light. Stay ageless,
xo Tania
