Gratitude Smoothie: The Superfood Banana "Milk" Shake

Ingredients

  • 2 smallish bananas or 1 large banana
  • 3 big leaves of kale (coarsely chopped)
  • 1 cup nut milk of choice (Brazil nut, almond or cashew work well)
  • 1 tablespoon raw sunflower seed butter or almond butter
  • ½ cup filtered water
  • 3 tablespoons hemp seeds
  • 2 teaspoons maca powder
  • ½ teaspoon pure vanilla extract (or paste or bean (bean is best))
  • 1 cup of ice

Instructions

  1. Place all ingredients in the blender, starting a low speed and moving to the highest speed.
  2. Blend for about 3-5 minutes until creamy and smooth.
  3. Add the ice, blend until crushed.
  4. Serve immediately.

Notes

Maca powder is serious superfood with a wonderful malty flavor. I love it in vegan desserts and in smoothies. It’s an adaptogen, and though expensive, one small bag will last you a while. Maca is know for helping to balance hormones and reverse hypothyroidism. It is an endocrine adaptogen, which means it doesn’t contain any hormones, but rather has the nutrients necessary to support normal hormone production. Hemp seeds are high in protein, fiber, and they are exceptionally rich in two essential fatty acids, linoleic acid (Omega 6) and alpha-linolenic acid (Omega 3). They are a great addition to porridges, smoothies, and energy bites.
